I talk to a lot of business owners … and I mean a lot. I share a lot of writing tips and have taught more than 120 people how to write in the last 6 months, run more than 60 events and spoken in front of more than 1000 people this year.

I know, I get around a little bit!

One of the more popular questions I am asked is what’s your best writing tip? And it’s probably not what you think.

It’s got nothing to do with writing for your reader first, or SEO, or even how to promote your blog … it is simple: Smile when you write.

Now, I can’t claim these words as my own. I heard them first from my writing coach Andrew Griffiths when I was writing my first book – Wow Words on the Web.

However, here’s why it is my best tip.

Because everything is so much nicer when you do it with a smile on your face.

When you think of your business bestie – mine is Abbey, she is actually a real person – think of them with a massive smile on your face because your business bestie going to change your life.

Here’s why:

Blogging is not just about making time to sit down and write your 300-500 words each week. It’s not  just about following the structure and putting your keywords in the right places. And it’s not just about coming up with a list of topics to write about so you don’t get writer’s block.

It is about blogging your dreams. It is about thinking bigger and going higher.

When sit down to write your blog to your business bestie, Abbey, you are writing to all the Abbeys out there and you will start to attract those as your ideal clients … you know the ones; they pay their bills on time, they love what you do, they refer you on to people, they don’t make many changes to your work and they make working with them so easy.

Hot writing tip: We want more business besties.

When you sit down to write think about how that blog can help you realise a dream because you have put a strong call to action at the end of it that falls in line with your marketing strategy, which might be to get more bums on seats, build your list, raise your profile increase inquiries and, of course, increase your revenue.

We want to grow our businesses and get more sales. Blogging can help you do that.

And when you sit down to write think of all the opportunities this one blog could open up for you…the people who might get in touch with you after reading or that influential person in your industry to shares it after you’ve promoted it on social media.

We are not blogging because we have to for SEO or to keep readers eyeballs on our page for longer. We are blogging our dreams!

And this should put a huge smile on your face!

That’s why my number one tip is to smile when you write. Not only because it’s more enjoyable but because this blog is going to attract more Abbeys, influence people and allow you to boost your business in ways you never thought were possible.

So you should be grinning from ear to ear!
