So this blog is a bit different and it’s completely deliberate because I want to show you how writing can open up many, many opportunities, not just in business but in life.
This example is from a housesitting website I subscribe to. The way I have written this copy follows the same rules of writing online content, it’s just on a more personal level.
But I’ve also taken a professional approach too and so my biz gets a mention and my website is there too.
This cool copy first of all gets me noticed from the myriad other house sitters, then it builds a rapport with the reader, and that, my friends, has turned into regular inquiries for this particular circumstance – and also markets me and my business. A double win.
You know I’ll be the first to tell you to share personal info about yourself and that stories keep eyeballs on your web pages and blogs for longer. But it also works for instances like this or any other online arena, even your eBay ad copy. Try it and see. Stand out, be different.
Hi, I’m Liz and you’ve just found your perfect house-sitting match!
Why, you may ask? Well, let me tell you.
I am an entrepreneur who runs two businesses, freelances for many online publications and magazines, and also edits a magazine on the Gold Coast.
And I do all of this from the comfort of home – or cafes in which I call my “coffices”.
This means I am home 99 per cent of the time to look after your place and keep an eye on things.
I am and have been a homeowner for about 10 years, so I know what needs to be done around the place.
I am also a keen gardener – thanks to my parents who passed on their green thumbs from a very young age. I am equally experienced in wielding a pair of shears, starting a lawn mower and whipper snipping.
And I have grown up and had pets almost all of my life; from birds to guinea pigs to cats, dogs and fish. I am happy to look after your furry, feathered or scaly friends while you are away on business or pleasure.
I don’t smoke but do enjoy the occasion glass of red (pinot noir is my favourite) and I am a coffee connoisseur. I’m into music, being active, going to the gym, eating well, writing (of course!), shopping, anything beauty related and I always look on the bright side.
My three best house-sitting qualities are:
* I am clean and tidy (I’m not obsessive but I do like to live in a clutter-free environment and I clean as I use things because it’s easier).
* I’m responsible. Once upon a time I was school captain 😉
* I’m respectful. I believe in treating others as I would like to be treated and it is no different for your house and belongings. While they are in my care, I will look after them.
Why do I want to house sit at your place?
Well, life moves and it’s time for me to live on my own for a while. Plus I have big plans for my businesses in 2015 and don’t want the distraction that share accommodation can bring. I just want to knuckle down and work. I am also looking to lower all costs in my life before I head off on an overseas adventure later this year.
I will play by your rules and treat your home as if it were my own.
I am happy to have a chat if you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
Otherwise, you can check out my business website: www.ecwritingservices.com (I am who I say I am!)
Have a great day!
Here’s another example of creative copy writing at work…I got the call back, was offered the position, but declined in the end – and I’m not a boy! I put it down to being different in the response.
Hi Lucy and Liz
Aw, I know you said the owners would prefer a boy – but I like the sound of this place and you guys, so I thought I’d flick a message through anyway.
I’m also Liz – but am happy to roll with a different name Liz 2.0, L2, Betty, Elizabeth – or my besties all me Cambie. I’m a journalist by trade but now run my own businesses and often work from my home, cafes, co-working spaces – or where ever I am at the time.
I’m a non-smoker, can def pay my bills and I am looking for an awesome place to live inner city. Being a journo I’m a good communicator, love a chat over a family roast and can just about talk on any subject.
So if the boy thing falls through, let me know!
I’d love to meet you – your style is amazing!
Liz, L2 or Cambie
So I would like you to have a think about the other areas of your life where you might be able to use your creative writing skills to open up an untapped source of opportunities. You might just be surprised where it takes you.
