Oh, the roller coaster ride that is small business…amazing one day and … well you know … blah the next!
As part of my teaching people to be real online … here are my own lessons from being in business.
- There’s no such thing as competition
This I am learning more and more. Of course, you have to be on guard sometimes and you must protect your IP. This a smart business practice but in the scheme of things, I don’t care about my competitions. In fact, much of the time I collaborate with them.
There’s just too many other things I can be doing or working on rather than paying attention to what she is doing or what he said or what I’m not doing.
We run our own race in business.
Worrying about your competition is only going to slow you down and attract more of those feelings and experiences.
HOT TIP: Stop following your competition! Start looking at them with different eyes … a business like you running their own race. Focus on your offering, your clients and your business.
- We all have the same problems
I did a business course years ago and I remember the presenter saying this exact thing.
I had no idea what he meant, I was in my first 6 months of business and still in employee mindset.
But now as I speak with and in front of thousands of business owners every year, I get it!
It doesn’t matter at what stage of your business you are we are all the same (granted some with more money, team, followers, whatever). And we all have the same issues.
Earlier this year I was struggling big time to get into the year. I’m working on my spiritual side because as a high performer I tend to overdo it and stress myself out. This year I wanted more calm and balance in my life.
I had got off track. Now don’t get me wrong … the track was amazing and I had loved it but it wasn’t working for me any more.
I knew that if I didn’t do something drastic, I would collapse is a big ball of mess. And that’s what happened several times in the last few months as get “back on track”.
When I share this story in my online workshops or through social media, my audience gets it. Plenty of them feel the same way. Even if they have a happy smiley face on.
HOT TIP: Remember you are not alone. Everything you feel today is the same as everyone else. It’s normal! You are not a weirdo! And neither am I!
- Don’t let fear take over
Wow. This is a big one. It takes every ounce of my being to overcome my fears everyday.
In 2016, I decided to face my fears head on and just do it.
It’s hard. I get it. But the more you practice the better you become.
Last week, when we launch Wow School Global’s New online program “5 STAR Content 2 Ca$h” I shared some stories I’ve shared before about lacking confidence when I first started in business and the only this year do I feel like a real and proper business woman.
I know why it’s like to put yourself out there in business ever damn day. From our side it might look seamless and effortless for me. But on the inside I’m freaking out.
It gets better as you practice but I still get nervous about speaking, writing content and doing videos. Yes, even for a seasoned pro like me!
My advice is just to feel the dear and do it anyway. I’m sure that’s a famous quote!
When I shared this story the people in the Wow School program went nuts. Because they are there too! And I received the most beautiful messages afterwards.
HOT TIP: have the courage to put yourself out there and don’t care what anyone thinks or says. There’s always the old fall-back option of “delete and block”!
I have rarely received negative feedback in all my years a journalist and business owner. We never get the type of bad response we think we will. So just do it!
I hope you’ve got some value from my business lessons. Feel free to share some of your own too! I bet I have the same problems!!
HOTTEST TIP: I share plenty more over in Wow School, where I teach bigness owners how to use the right words to grow their business (to 6 figures and beyond!).
See you in there!
